IVideoCamera for IPhone

IVideoCamera for IPhone

The iVideo camera allows user to record short videos on any phone. This app works with any 2G or 3G iPhone with iPhone OS 3.1 or above installed in it. This app has ability to save videos directly to the camera roll or “photos” and then you are ready to share it. You have options to share it on YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, flickr Video, Vimeo and camera Roll Export for trimming or editing. The new version of iVideo camera allows you to e-mail video clips or you can upload videos using wireless via FTP.

This iVideo camera app has its share of limitations. This app allows you to shoot a video of up to 1 minute in length and captures 3 frames per second. The resolution of the camera is 160 X 213 resolutions which is quite low. But then the latest version has made some improvement in its feature. The recording time limit has been extended to 15 minutes and records at 10 frames per second. This is not quite good but better than previous versions. The iVideo Camera works best if theirs is ample free space in your iPhone. The high quality mode consumes memory fast. This iVideo camera is best for first generation iPhone users as they get videos than no video at all.

Hyperoffice
Apart from gaming and multimedia applications iPhone also has other applications which can make your work easier. One of them is Hyperoffice. It is confirmed now that iPhone 3G will support Microsoft exchange ActiveSync and Cisco VPN. Hyperoffice helps you to access your corporate email box with high security and easiness. This application also allows you to access storage areas at your corporate place.

Hyperoffice is complete replacement of Microsoft outlook. It contains all the outlook services like calendar, discussions, public folders, RSS and more. You can also manage documents and access online storage. All this comes at a little price of $7/month, which is nothing as compared to its features it offers. You can download this application from iPhone application store or through the website. This application also works with blackberry and smartphones. Just install this application and enjoy working from your home.

Skype for iPhone

Skype for iPhone
Skype is all set with its new iPhone application which has net based phone service to Apple’s mobile platform. This Skype iphone app will give users benefit of making free calls using Wi-Fi to other Skype users and much reduced price calls to landlines.

With its marvellous features user may get disappointed that calls are only possible via Wi-Fi not over cellular networks. But for international calls Skype’s iPhone app will save callers money by just avoiding AT & T’s wireless phone network. You can sign in using 3G, WiFi, GPRS or Edge and can send instant message to whoever is online. Skype features five tabs at the bottom of the screen unlike the desktop version. It displays contacts, chats, a calling panel, call history and your profile which is more like facebook style. Skype for iPhone uses phone numbers directly from your phone’s address book so you save the effort of duplicating contacts. Photos of the contacts can be displayed and conferences also possible. iPod touch users too can enjoy Skype but with a purchase of a microphone or headphones with built in microphones similar to the iPhone’s.

It misses many of the features its desktop version has like SMS, video and proper conference calling, file transfer, and voicemail.

Block fall for iPhone

Block Fall for iPhone
Morphy software has launched Block Fall with some variations to the similar games like Bejeweled. Block Fall is a game where you can tap away clusters of blocks but you have only three lives to survive the game and score highest. You lose a life each time you tap a group of blocks smaller than three. But if you have used up lives and more blocks fall your lives are gained back and then you just have to continue tapping blocks until the blocks disappeared. Then you enter to next higher level. If while playing the blocks reach the top of the screen then the game is over.

The levels of the game are not set up to end cleanly. Many a times you will end up with whole lots of single blocks. You have to tap those single blocks risking your lives. But if you get to tap blocks of same colour then the new bunch of blocks won’t include that colour. After playing few times you can easily know the strategy of the game. You can easily use single and double blocks in your favour to create bigger groups to score more.

This game comes with 30 levels and three difficulty modes. You can always get started when you want to play and get out of the game when you had enough for a day. It takes a good amount of your concentration to play well

Gowalla for iPhone

Gowalla
The Gowalla, app from Alamofire is designed for the iPhone. This new app is basically for the location based social networking. The main purpose behind the design of this app is to share your comings and goings with your beloved and friends. You can also choose Gowalla or Twitter and Facebook too.

For this app to work you must have iPhone with built in GPS and Wi-Fi triangulation so that your exact location can be known. It can very well inform you if you are in or anywhere near an already created “Spot”. If there isn’t any created you can easily create one yourself. Spot here can be anything from a coffee shop to bars, restaurant, and retail store. If your Spot has been very well selected then you can just check-in. Then you can easily toggle the share with twitter/facebook option. You can also keep the information just limited to few people.

You get your Gowalla passport stamped each time you check in somewhere. More the places you check in more you will discover items that are connected to specific venues. You can also pick new item but you have to compromise with one of yours. This becomes fun when you watch items being picked and then dropped by others. Every city here has its own unique featured spots and recommended trips. You can explore them as you wish to and collect various items and stamps too.

The look and the design of the app is one of the best. This app is designed with keeping the usability in mind. The layout of the city and the areas are impressive and thoughtful. Playing around with Gowalla is lot fun.

iPhone OS 4.0

iPhone OS 4.0

For all of you who refuse to grow up, apple brings yet another reason that would excite the geek side of all modern day not-so-grown up men The IPHONE OS 4.0. This revolutionary apple creation just gets better with time, and this time it’s meaner and powerful.

SO WHAT DOES APPLE HAS IN STORE FOR US THIS TIME AROUND:

  • Multi-touch gestures will be os- wide, which makes it at par with the I-Tablet
  • Now you get support to multitask, that allow you to run multiple applications in the background
  • State of art GRAPHICAL AND UI upgrades that make Navigation easier and efficient (for e.g.: improved notifications and a refreshed home-screen)
  • Though this update is only for the 3G and 3GS, it would make them act even more like real computers. Over all this will make your I PHONE (3G & 3GS) ahead of all existing smart phones
  • New syncing options for contacts and calendar apps will also hit with this update, though some are still skeptical about the real deal

Though users are still skeptical about the actual experience with this upgrade. Mean while some technical sources have concerns regarding the battery life to support such upgrades, as they fear that multi tasking features will squeeze the battery dry.

Amidst all these speculations and claims, the market is looking good for this new upgrade, but not much can be said till the first round of sales figures are with us.

Paper Toss

posted by itsotodark in Games

Are you like me and fed up of picking up balls of paper from around the bin after your boss or teacher catches you? Backflip Studios has made sure we never have to do that again with the free app, Paper Toss. Backflip studios, who’s other titles are Ragdoll Blaster and Paper Toss: World Tour (the sequel to this free app,) has most certainly created one of most addicting and also one of the most downloaded apps of all time.

Their formulae is a simple one, for a start its free which can always help an apps popularity, it’s fun, addictive and has a simple yet effective high score system that always remembers your best score for a certain level to challenge your friends with. With the release of Paper Toss: World Tour, Backflip did the right thing by making the first one as free and addictive as it was and still is due to regular updates, this game was a trial of sorts but yet emerged as one of my top apps of all time.

Twitterfon

posted by iPodFirst in Social Networking

TwitterfonWhat do you get from a fusion of the world’s fastest growing electronics device and the world’s fast growing social networking site? If you don’t know what the above two things are, you’re a little behind the rest. I’m of course talking about the iPhone and iPod Touch, and Twitter. While I hope everyone is aware what the first is, I will tell you what Twitter is and how it works. Twitter is basically a site that lets you provide updates on what you’re doing, your life, etc., as long as it’s under 140 characters. The fusion of the two creates Twitterfon, an cool new twitter application that allows you to manage the site conveniently from your iPhone or iPod Touch. Created by Kazuho Okui, the app has grown to become the largest Twitter one in the entire world!

There’s not much to say about this App, except the fact that it gets the job it was made to do done. As far as we could tell, there was nothing that you can do on a computer-based twitter application that wasn’t possible on this App as well. Sure, there were some cool features that are present on computer applications such as TwitterDeck, but we understand that those features would be incredibly hard, if not impossible to port onto the iPhone and iPod Touch. The fact that this App cost us a frugal $0 made it even more enticing, and in the future, much more accessible to average iPhone and iPod user.

TwitterfonTwitterfon

So, apart from a few little glitches that made it difficult for us to function with the app (the text magnifier was invisible due to the input box being at the top). So, with all that said, we award this App a near-perfect 4 out of 5 stars.

Etch a Sketch Lite

posted by iPodFirst in Interface

Etch a Sketch LiteAs a lot of physical toys, games, and generally fun stuff is getting ported on to the iPhone and iPod Touch, and it seems that developers are all too willing to add to that list. Every once in a while, though, between the salt shaker App and the paper clip App, comes a great App that makes you think all those other failed Apps were worth it. One App that can truly live up to that is Etch a Sketch, and it’s free counterpart Etch a Sketch Lite. Derived from the popular children’s drawing game, the App is now tearing up the App market and people’s devices everywhere. The developer is game developing company Freeze Tag Inc.

We weren’t expecting much when we downloaded this App. Basically an etch a sketch that had been directly ported into the Apple interface. If we were excited to play that, imagine our reaction when we learned that Freeze Tag Inc. had went the extra mile and added a whole host of extra features, even for the free version. These features were built on top of the already popular Etch a Sketch interface, and added a whole host of options to the game. Some examples of the great add-ons include the ability to change the colour of the frame of the Etch a Sketch, the ability to add a background, the ability to choose from many different colours and brush types, and the ability to save your picture and load it up for later.

Etch a Sketch Lite

As you can probably tell, we were really impressed by the work put into this App. We got all these features from the free version alone, so we really expect great things from the paid version (which we think is going to be a blockbuster success). With that said, we award this App a over-the-top 5 out of 5 stars.
