There hasn’t been any simple technological solution yet available for stocking all your stuffs like furniture, dishes, flatware, tools, DVD, video games, books etc. All these stuffs are worth something which if lost you would have to spend money to replace them. Some apps have been launched for the iPhone and iPod touch which will allow you to organize all your possessions and thus it will help you save lots of your precious time. The new iInvetory, Gotta Have it software’s home inventory by Kilmer software and My Stuff by Rick Maddy’s all of these can be used in organizing your stuff but each of them work differently.

These apps have security measures and online back up facilities. These apps require manual input of all the information. You have to do tedious job of entering author, publisher, ISBN, and other data to these apps. Gotta Have It Software’s Home Inventory asks you to create a user name and password before using the app. after you are done with that you can enter the app and start entering item information from a series of categories or by location in your home. The Home Inventory is customizable and allows you to back up your data to a remote server conveniently and securely. Birds eye for iPhone

Birds eye for iPhone

Iphone’s BirdsEye is one of the simplest, unique and most useful birding application which uses the power of eBird, a collaboration between The Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Audubon Society. Bird sights are collected from birdwatchers all over the world. Mostly the data in the BirdsEye app are about the birds found in North America.

BirdsEye which is developed by Birds in the Hand has database of almost 470 most regularly observed birds in North America. If you are ready to invest another $20 you can make an in-app purchase of 377 additional species. You also have choice to buy specific families of birds instead of 377 species database. BirdsEye’s database has field notes from Kenn Kaufman’s Field Guide, from Macaulay Library of Sound they have birds call and photographs taken from Vireo collection at the Academy of Natural Sciences. The electronic Field Guide is not as good as the printed field guides.

This app has a feature where you can compile a list of birds you have seen yourself known as Life List. This feature is most beneficial yet is incomplete as it only creates a list but doesn’t allow you to make personal notes on your sightseeing. The personal sightings will be visible in the BirdsEye if you post your bird sightings to ebird.com but you can’t link the BirdsEye app with your eBird account. You have to do all those manually. Helps in finding whatever bird species you are looking for. They show you a map which shows where and when a particular species was reported and then they also give you directions to the location. But they don’t give the exact location of finding the bird which is a demerit. The app is so intuitive that you can figure out what to do by just looking at the screen once. The layout is quite simple, very well designed and easy to navigate.

Camera level has two modes one by default is the grid line mode which helps in adding grid overlay to the entire screen. The second mode has a simple line across the bottom third of the screen of your iPhone. Switching to and fro from one mode to other is quite easy via the setting button. Block Fall for iPhone
Morphy software has launched Block Fall with some variations to the similar games like Bejeweled. Block Fall is a game where you can tap away clusters of blocks but you have only three lives to survive the game and score highest. You lose a life each time you tap a group of blocks smaller than three. But if you have used up lives and more blocks fall your lives are gained back and then you just have to continue tapping blocks until the blocks disappeared. Then you enter to next higher level. If while playing the blocks reach the top of the screen then the game is over.

The levels of the game are not set up to end cleanly. Many a times you will end up with whole lots of single blocks. You have to tap those single blocks risking your lives. But if you get to tap blocks of same colour then the new bunch of blocks won’t include that colour. After playing few times you can easily know the strategy of the game. You can easily use single and double blocks in your favour to create bigger groups to score more.

This game comes with 30 levels and three difficulty modes. You can always get started when you want to play and get out of the game when you had enough for a day. It takes a good amount of your concentration to play well

Disable the iPhone backup

posted by Davide in General Posts

I know, this is not an application, but I really hate the auto-backup that starts every time I connect my iPhone to my computer. So what to do if you want to disable it?

Simple, if you are an Apple user quit iTunes and open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and type

defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

if you want to enable it again just type in the Terminal

defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false

I told you it was simple
