Hyperoffice
Apart from gaming and multimedia applications iPhone also has other applications which can make your work easier. One of them is Hyperoffice. It is confirmed now that iPhone 3G will support Microsoft exchange ActiveSync and Cisco VPN. Hyperoffice helps you to access your corporate email box with high security and easiness. This application also allows you to access storage areas at your corporate place.

Hyperoffice is complete replacement of Microsoft outlook. It contains all the outlook services like calendar, discussions, public folders, RSS and more. You can also manage documents and access online storage. All this comes at a little price of $7/month, which is nothing as compared to its features it offers. You can download this application from iPhone application store or through the website. This application also works with blackberry and smartphones. Just install this application and enjoy working from your home.

iPhone OS 4.0

iPhone OS 4.0

For all of you who refuse to grow up, apple brings yet another reason that would excite the geek side of all modern day not-so-grown up men The IPHONE OS 4.0. This revolutionary apple creation just gets better with time, and this time it’s meaner and powerful.

SO WHAT DOES APPLE HAS IN STORE FOR US THIS TIME AROUND:

  • Multi-touch gestures will be os- wide, which makes it at par with the I-Tablet
  • Now you get support to multitask, that allow you to run multiple applications in the background
  • State of art GRAPHICAL AND UI upgrades that make Navigation easier and efficient (for e.g.: improved notifications and a refreshed home-screen)
  • Though this update is only for the 3G and 3GS, it would make them act even more like real computers. Over all this will make your I PHONE (3G & 3GS) ahead of all existing smart phones
  • New syncing options for contacts and calendar apps will also hit with this update, though some are still skeptical about the real deal

Though users are still skeptical about the actual experience with this upgrade. Mean while some technical sources have concerns regarding the battery life to support such upgrades, as they fear that multi tasking features will squeeze the battery dry.

Amidst all these speculations and claims, the market is looking good for this new upgrade, but not much can be said till the first round of sales figures are with us.

myHomework

myHomeworkKeeping track of all your assignments from all your classes while continuing to keep up with the busy high school lifestyle isn’t a small task. In fact, it’s almost like a full time job all in itself. Recognizing the need for a personal organizer on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Rodrigo Neri created an App for a very significant amount of users of these devices: School Kids and University Students. That App has now been released for free, and goes by the name of myHomework.

The App works just like many other personal organizers do: By collecting your homework information, sorting it out, and then reminding you when it needs to be finished. We liked the features that the developer went on to add in this App however, because it really shows they went above the bare minimums for a free App. One example is how you can easily set up classes and information about them, such as the schedule, the building name (for university students), the room number, the name of the professor, the amount of days you have the class, and a course number if you have one. Another appluadable part of this App is the outstanding graphical interface. While many Apps we see these days are just black and white screens thrown together, the developer did a great job in creating a great looking graphical experience for the users. The final, and perhaps coolest, feature for us was the Apple-style red update icon that pops on your home screen to warn you of impending due dates.

Overall, we think the developer did an excellent job. We really think Mr. Neri put his heart into this one, and the quality of the work definitely shows in this App. Due to that, we award this App an uncommon 5 out of 5 stars.

MagicPad

posted by iPodFirst in Productivity

Many of the prebuilt Apps that come with the iPod Touch and iPhone aren’t exactly great, and App Developers have been working around the clock to create new Apps that can not only replace the functionality of those Apple Apps, but reinvent them altogether. One such App is MagicPad, which is an extremely advanced version of the Apple NotePad. The App was created by Proximi Inc, and the App certainly seems quite promising!

This App functions quite like the normal NotePad that comes with your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can easily perform tasks such as creating a new note, editing and old note, and erasing a previous note. The forte of this App, however, lies in it’s added features. There are a variety of really awesome features in this App, such as the ability to change fonts, change colors, change the size, and add stylings to your font (bold, italic, strike through, and underline. The biggest gem in this tool is, of course, it’s ability to allow users to easily copy and paste sections of the note from page to another.

The wasn’t without it’s fair share of complaints though! Some of the major complaints we had were limited fonts and hard to select settings. For example, it took us a couple of tries just to switch from one font to the next, and from one color to a different one. This was because the App doesn’t allow you to click on a setting and make your selection, and instead you must choose the setting you wish to edit and then slide your finger over to the selection. We found it would have been loads easier if they would have just went with the first way. Can’t argue much with a free App, however, and that’s why we’re giving this App a spectacular 4 out of 5 stars.

iHandy Level Free

posted by iPodFirst in Productivity

It seems like Apps for just about everything are being released these days, and of course, home improvement wasn’t far behind. iHandy, a suite of Apps released to replicate every carpenter’s toolbox, now has a free demonstration App, called iHandy Level Free. The App functions as a very simple calibration tool, offering users a chance to use their iPhone or iPod Touch as a calibrator. The App was released by iHandy Soft, which, as I mentioned above, also releases other various Apps for home improvement.

The App is very simple. There are only 2 buttons in the App, one is to center the calibration tool and the other is to hold the position you currently have. While there is some hidden functionality built into the App, such as the ability to switch from horizontal display to vertical display, there isn’t much more to this App or using this App. It was made as a simple carpenter’s tool, and that’s pretty much all it does.

So while there’s not much for us to review in this free App, it certainly left us with an interesting question. What carpenter, even in today’s devastated home-building economy, is willing to tout around their iPhone or iPod Touch just to use their $1.99 tools? While we don’t know of any carpenter’s with the need, we wouldn’t be surprised to some actually using this in the future, and the price is a definite advantage since it can save you tens of dollars over traditional apps. Just don’t quiz us on the accuracy of the instruments! So, with that said, we still believe each individual tools has a value of $0.99, so if you’re going to get it, you should get it all together. Finally, we don’t see many normal people using this App, and it’s simplicity certainly doesn’t make it worth the price just to try it. With all that, we’re going to award this App a respectable 3 out of 5 stars.

ReQall

posted by Davide Di Cillo in Productivity

ReQall is one of the first free applications I installed on my iPhone. It’s a really simple to-do list, but thinked differently.

First of all it doesn’t have a thousand parameters you need to set. You don’t really need to specify a date for your tasks and if you want to you just need to type it in the task and it will automatically recognize it. Your tasks are divided in notes, shopping list and to-dos, and you can see them by category or by date.

ReQall also gives you the possibility of sharing your tasks with other people, and this is great for shopping lists, to avoid to buy stuff twice…

Another great feature is the ability of record vocally your tasks and having them transcribed after few minutes on your list by the reQall team. This is simply priceless, especially considering that is a free appication. Of course everything is supported but a web version of the application and the integration with many tools you probably already use like iCal, Firefox, Outlook and many others.

This is for ma a 5 star applications, nearly perfect.

Page Once

posted by Davide in Productivity

Finally the first review, and I’m starting with what I think is a really useful free iPhone application: Page Once.

Till now the only bank that has a real iPhone application is Bank of America. If you don’t have an account with them and you want to check your bank account you need to use your bank website and navigate through your accounts with an interface that of course wasn’t made to be seen on a small screen. With Page Once now you can control all your bank accounts, as well as most of other type of accounts you have like mail, social networks, cable tv, electricity bills and much more.

Honestly I don’t think you really need Page Once for social networks and emails, considering all the applications around that do that in a much better way, but for other accounts like banks and bills is a killer application, for sure in my top 5.
