Outside is a weather app which is new in the weather apps category. Outside helps you to customize all your notification. You can set the app to notify you its cold when the temperature falls below certain degree and hot when it rises above certain degrees. You can also set UV notification. You can also customize any sound which will play and a message will appear on your screen for any particular notification. This type of timed notification is very useful as it makes it easier to check weather when you wake up or any time during day time.

There are only four notification and the apps are limited to only one geographical location. The apps don’t have current weather information and gives forecasts for only one location. The Outsides push notifications are very bare boned which can be concluded as nearly useless. The subscription model is quite simple and would have been much better if the push notifications had been more useful and plentiful. During the purchase you will get 30 days of notification for free and after that you have to subscribe for another 90 days for $1 or 300 days for $2. if you don’t subscribe for further notification the app will work as it is but you wont get any further notifications.

Pocket Reference by Medl Mobile’s is best investment for those who help others when they have a question about anything. This app contains everything that anyone wants to know about.

Pocket Reference uses various websites to create a mini encyclopedia on iPhone or iPod touch. You have any query let it be on white pages, yellow pages, area codes zip codes you will get a list of websites for searching all these. And then if you are not sure which category your question fall under you can very well use the search bar. The Pocket Reference also indicates which websites are cell phones friendly so that you can pick one that will suit your iPhone best.

But then there is one disadvantage that it doesn’t work when the iPod is running. For instance your music gets cut out if you look through the app. it would have been good if Pocket Reference would work uninterrupted. This app will help you save lots of amount of time you would other wise spend fumbling on Google Search.

Aeroweather : iPhone Application

Aeroweather gives you current and precise weather conditions i.e. METAR as well as weather forecasts i.e. TAF. All these are used by pilots for their flight preparations. You have choice to choose worldwide airport weather stations from the built in data base by giving name or ICAO code or Based on the current location. The data shown will be in its original format or fully decoded into easy understandable texts.

In Aviation Weather Widget you can get additional information like sunrise and sunset, location and elevation, time zone and daylight saving adjustment. It also displays all times in GMT or in station’s local time. It also supports US and metric units. You can get temperatures displayed in Fahrenheit when you switch off show original units. It can display and add nearby stations. The information received is accurate and gives more information than nay other weather apps. Though it doesn’t do long term forecasts yet it can show weather of all the stations you have in it instantly. You can get picture of the weather all around your place. It would have been nice if it had drilled down on some symbols and give better explanation of the acronyms for the non pilots.

Grocery Pal : iPhone Application

Grocery pal helps you learn more about in store specials and promotion while you make the list. After downloading the app you need to enter your zip code and then the Grocery Pal will provide you with a list of local super markets. After adding few stores you can browse their promotions by categories. You can build your list based on what’s on sale. Browsing through discounted food is easy and you can see the details of the food too and add those to your shopping list.
Grocery Pal doesn’t work well when you assemble your shopping list from scratch. Once you select one item and after saving if you go for promotions available for that item, you have to again go to the grocery list and tap on the price comparison by stores tab. But then you will get all the pricing information for foods that are presently on sale in your grocery circulars.

Sometimes the Grocery Pal doesn’t find foods that are available at your area stores at a discounted price. This caused due to poor labeling which isn’t entirely apps problem. The Grocery Pal searches only on the title field.

PhotoSpeak : iPhone Application

PhotoSpeak from MotionPotrait takes a still photo and adds your voice and some animation which looks like as the photo is speaking. PhotoSpeak is a simple app where you just need select a photo with a face and crop it such that it fits. The best photo would be a straight tight shot with your eyes open and mouth closed. After selecting the photo you can upload the photo to the MotionPotrait’s servers. In next minute the photo would return to its animated form. Then you would see that the eyes blink and the head turns from one side to other.

You have choice to record a number of your own audio tracks which can be then added to the animated images. Then when you combine the audio and animated photo your image seems to come to life. The latest version of PhotoSpeak enables you to upload the final edited photo to you tube and then you can email notices to whoever you want to. But the quality of the product gets deteriorated a bit. The PhotoSpeak also has an added feature where you can add a hairdo and sunglasses to the image. WolframAlpha for IPhone

Recently Wolfram Alpha’s iPhone was released which gives users full access to Wolfram Alpha’s capabilities and immensely improved in speed and ergonomics of Wolframs Alpha’s mobile site. The main aim of the company is to replace stand alone graphic calculators by targeting this app at students and professionals.

One of the amazing features of this app is its dual keyboards. One keyboard is for numbers and symbols and other a regular QWERTY keyboard. This app works only when you are connected to the Internet. This might be a deal breaker for many but then it has plenty to offer like the basic graphing calculators when you can’t access Internet. It is well suited to solve a high school or college goer through its vast database of chemical compounds, nutritional data, geographical information, financial data etc.

Using Alpha isn’t as easy as using Google. It’s rather strict on how you structure a querry while Google has no such specification. It has a demo video to help you out with lots of example queries.
Though the price is too high the Wolfram Alpha team is stressing on the part of this app having lot to offer that a Web app can’t offer. This app is capable of making assumptions based on your location they also have included some features that make using the app easier than using the web service.
